I've just posted a note about downtime because of changes to my broadband supply.

That means I'm going to be Internet-less for 2 weeks. Eek!

So as a precaution, I'm currently building a CMS package.
 
Why?

Firstly, I need something to do over two weeks. So I'm thinking content writing.

If I could write 10 articles a day, I could get 100 articles by the end of the two weeks. I'm aiming for more. I would hope I could get 20 good articles a day. I've also got a bit of software lying around that can manipulate these articles and create tens to thousands of new ones. That might come in handy!

My CMS system is going to be very basic. It will not have an admin system as it doesn't need one. It will have SEO urls, html file emulation and it will have the ability to hotlink to merchants.

Admin

The administration will be done via a script I have and some .txt based spreadsheets. The script parses the spreadsheets and inserts these into a MySQL database.

SEO URLs with .html Emulation

The site will have a handful of real PHP pages. By using .htaccess, hundreds of other pages can be instantly emulated. I currently do this over at www.makeushappy.co.uk where there is one file containing a few switches. Every page ends in .html which is certainly not the case on the server. It works like a dream.

The CMS will also generate a Google Sitemap and RSS feed.

Hotlinking

The articles will be plain text but as the visitor loads up each page, all the keywords I specify will change to links to merchants. So if a merchant changes network, a two second change can be rolled out site-wide.

Summary

I'm telling you this as it is part of my strategy to increase traffic to my sites. I can essentially create a set of articles that are relative to sites like Lingerie Helper and Compare Sat Nav. This can help to build up the backlinks and ultimately traffic.

I could also roll out large sites in minutes (once the content is created) so theoretically, I could launch a niche website (something like Stu Foster's Contemporary Vases site with a bit more content) every day of the year. Write 10 targeted articles in a day, upload and submit to Google.

Mind you, that could get expensive what with a domain and hosting costing around £15 a year. One a day will cost £5.5K in a year. That's OK so long as I make more than that back.

It'll be interesting to know how much Stu has made from getting his site to number one and it would be very interesting to know whether he could have done that with a sub-domain such as test.com/contemporary-vases/
