Kimberley Returns Expecting A Link Exchange

You may remember I had one of the best emails ever asking for a link exchange.

Kimberley has sent through another email with a bit more details this time. This time though she's more demanding.

I have gone ahead and added your link in our site and you can find it at: ................

Please let me know where I can find our reciprocal link.

I've attached our link information to assist you in setting up our link.
Site Name: ................
Site URL: ................
Description: ................

Much appreciated,
Kimberly ................

I've blanked out certain information for the purpose of this post hence the "................".

This email starts full of promise. "I have gone ahead and added your link in our site". I haven't replied to her directly but nevertheless she's added a link to my site from hers.

The problem I have with this email is that she then goes on expecting a reciprocal link exchange. She hasn't asked if I would mind, nor has she explained why this is of any benefit to me or my readers.

Infact, I haven't agreed to a link exchange. The last email demanded one. This one's no different.

Where's the love?

Creating The Perfect Reciprocal Link Email

For me, the best format would be one that answers these points:
  • Who are you and what do you do?
  • Why do you want a link exchange?
  • Which site would you like a link exchange on?
  • What benefit is there for me or my readers by exchanging links with you?
  • What's your suggested URL, link title and description?
I like to see people who are proactive and link first as I'm more likely to reciprocate.

I like polite emails. When I send out link exchange requests, I try and be as polite as can be. Rudeness gets you nowhere.

I hate 3 way link exchanges and will not participate in any. Let's keep it nice and simple - you link to me and I'll link to you. That's the theory anyway :-)

Yeah - that blogroll feed is really good, especially when I manage to keep deleting all my bookmarks - it means they're all in one place.

One thing though - if you could please keep an eye on the quality and relevance of the blogs - at the moment it's all good, but we don't want it turning into the ones at the a4u where you can't see the wood for the trees!

Thanks again though, it's super useful

@Gav - I agree with your comment wholeheartedly. The blogs I've added are hand picked. They are primarily affiliates (with one or two agencies) and are all blogs I read and visit.

I think I need to be a bit more explicit about the feed as it seems to be a good idea that's hidden away.
