Okay, not the best thing to mention now but Christmas is fast approaching. What has this got to do with affiliate marketing and why now?
Well it's time for content and SEO affiliates to start making a move on their Christmas content.
Now it's too early to whip out your Santa creative but you need to at least think about what you are aiming to push this Christmas.
For example, if you know of a product that will be launched in time for the Christmas market, getting a good quality domain and some good solid content now will give you a good chance at ranking well for that product and long tail derivatives by Christmas.
If you aren't sure of what to promote, why not decide on a website or a couple that you are really going to push. Start keyword dropping. For example, in a review of an electric toothbrush, why not add the words "an ideal Christmas stocking filler"? This won't work on some things so don't try and add this to products like garden hoses, which are predominantly summer products.
You may wish to also start investigating Christmas related markets. By this I mean those markets that boom before, or just after Christmas. So you may wish to look into credit cards and loans as these will boom before Christmas (people buying presents) and after (people recovering after buying too many presents). Valentine's day falls not long after Christmas in the grand scheme of things so perhaps it may be work setting up a website about chocolate gifts. You'll get mileage out of that for Christmas, Valentine's Day and Easter. Holidays are often booked around January to April so building a travel website (how about a Sunshine site with a chance to win a holiday?) may be worthwhile. You can promote late 2008 and early 2009 holidays right now.
It's easy to push this kind of thing onto the back burner. I've done it for the last couple of years. I always think that I'll concentrate on this kind of stuff closer to the time and hence I lose out on an awful lot of potential revenue.
Just a word of advice! Now go and enjoy your summer!
